Deb’s Devils Petite C Ringette
team sponsored by Elmira Stoveworks must be doing a lot of things right because
the team skated away with the Petite C division gold medal at the first annual
St. Thomas Thunder Ringette Tournament held February 24th – 26th,
making the team the Petite C gold medal winner in the last four tournaments in
which it’s played – London Lynx in November, St. Jacob’s in December, Stratford
in January and this tournament. The
team went undefeated in its last three tournaments.
In the St. Thomas tournament, the
team beat Exeter 3 – 1. The team
overpowered Elora-Fergus to win 6 – 3. Jaime Gray scored a hat trick in their 6 – 4 victory over Kitchener. Goalie Shannon
Hadley got a shut out when they
defeated St. Thomas 8 – 0 in a rough game where St. Thomas suffered 16 minutes
in penalties and Deb’s Devils none.
Shannon was assisted by the awesome defence of Nicole Barrett, Emily Brook, Stephanie Hadley and Allie Ross. Erin Dawtrey recovered nicely from her thunderous hit by one of the St.
Thomas players in this “non-contact” game, to go on and score two goals in the
championship game against Kitchener and help lead the team to its 7 – 4 victory
over Kitchener for the gold medal. Jaime Gray scored her second hat trick of the tournament in this
game.
Deb’s Devils defeated
Wellington-North 7 – 4 at the Jackie Miles Memorial Tournament in Stratford in
January. The team beat both Pickering
and Tillsonburg before going on to overpower Wellington-North 5–1 for the gold
medal.
In December, Deb’s Devils also
went undefeated in the one day Woolwich tournament in St. Jacobs on December 30th. The team beat Kitchener 7-3, Wellington -
North 8–2, and Elora/Fergus 13– 4.
Again they played Wellington-North in the Petite C final. It was a nail biter of a game with the team
winning in sudden death overtime 7 – 6 when Allie Ross scored 7 minutes into
the overtime period.
Even though the year has been filled with many medals and wins, as
one parent put it, the most important
thing is how the girls have come together to play as a team. The girls
always celebrate everyone’s success. The girls support and learn from
each other on and off the ice. They enjoyed making sure everyone of the
players, except the goalie of course, had scored a goal. As Emily
Brook said, “We can win AND HAVE FUN TOO!!!!
